Welcome to the Fellowship of the Web Ring!

A webring in general is a collection of websites from around the internet joined together in a circular structure, but we're a little more than that.
This is a webring for Lord of the Rings sites that are still up and running five years after the making of the movies. The entire fandom has declined since Return of the King was released, and the fansites that participate in this webring are the most dedicated LotR fansites on the internet.

Project Return of the Update

The massive decrease in fansite development in this fandom has risen drastically in the past few years. Return of the Update 2008 is a chance for the webmasters of the Lord of the Ring fandom to get their act in gear. This project applies for all the members of the webring.

So what does this project entitle, exactly? There are only two things webmasters have to do for the project to work:

  • Advertise In order to make the webring, and more importantly the update project, successful people need to know about it. By placing one of the codes on your webpage. Also, all members in the webring must put up a specified code on their home page that will link to other member's sites. That is, after all, what a webring does.
  • Update This is the big secret of Return of the Update: actually updating. All webmasters included in the project must update their site once a month. There are rules to follow, though, so make sure you know them well before you fill out the form to join.

Update

Rules:
  • As stated above, you must update your site once a month.
  • The update can be at any time during the month, but do not update at the end and beginning of back-to-back months. For instance, do not update at the end of January and the beginning of February.
  • The update must contain at least two relevant changes in your site. They don't have to be big changes, but they must be changes, not just a spelling mistake in a biography or a corrected javascript error.
  • This is the hardest to remember. If a webmaster from this webring comments on your update, you must comment on their last update or tagboard.
  • If you are a member, you must place a FotW Webring Code somewhere on your site. These are not the same as the codes listed above, but the ones in the member login area. They are not the same.
Other than those two requirements, there's nothing else to do. Do you think you can handle it?
